Sorry
It was all those things and more
The truth cannot lie to you
Not even to even the score
Not even to protect you
From the world beyond your door
Not even to keep you from knowing
It wasn't even working before
Perhaps you think they broke it
So you've said, again and again
But lesson learned, you never had it
And you'll never think so again
You insist your chains are unbroken
Just your denial now holds you down
As true as you could make it
The lie was ever what held you bound

Hmm...I tend to write poems as if I was talking to someone directly. How do you think a personal tone works in poetry?

Oh, and, silly thought - alternate title, 'The Chains are a Lie'
